Proof That I Need More Sleep

I get into a really bad habit where I have a ton that needs to be done so I stay up late working on it. Then the alarm goes off in the morning, and I'm still tired. I manage to get through the day, but I'm slightly less productive, so that's more work to do after the wee ones go to bed. Generally, this works out alright, even though I'm one of those people who really does best with more than eight hours of sleep.

Every once in awhile, this habit catches up with me and my body - or maybe my brain - screams at me that I need to get some more sleep. This week? Yeah... I need some more sleep.

When I woke up Wednesday, I wanted to go back to bed, but I didn't. Instead I got up and got the wee ones ready for school. I fixed their breakfast, got out their vitamins, packed their lunches, and we headed out the door.

After dropping the wee ones at their respective schools, I headed to the gym as I do most days. Even when I'm tired and can't do my full workout, I can at least do something, I decided awhile ago. I popped into the locker room and started grabbing my clothes to change. I had just done wash and was happy that - tired as I was - I remembered to grab my workout gear before I left the house. So of the two items that were in my clean laundry, which do you suppose made it into my gym bag?

If you guessed the black cami that I also happened to have washed that day, you'd be right. The only good thing is that I always have an extra of each item in my bag at all times just in case - why yes, I do know myself well. They aren't my favorites, but they'll do. After my workout, I reached into my bag to get my towel so I could shower. Ummm, no towel. Why? Because my oh so responsible self had folded it up and put it away instead of placing it into my gym bag where I needed it. Oops.

And when I picked up Mister Man from school? Well, I got a little bit of an earful from him - well-deserved, too. I had sent him Little Miss's lunch instead of his own. And that's a problem. She has to have a dairy free lunch, and he won't do sauces or hummus or the like because of textural issues. Instead of sending them nearly identical lunches that day, I'd sent her dairy free pizza, heavy on the sauce, and celery sticks with red pepper hummus. Interestingly, I'd checked the containers before I slipped it into their lunchboxes to be sure I gave them the right ones, but I didn't open the containers to check to see that I'd put the right food into the right containers. Oops.

I didn't listen, in case you're wondering. My gym issues? I forgot the towel. Again. And worse? When I did remember the towel, I closed my locker and locked it. It wasn't until after my shower when I was standing there in my towel trying to unlock it that I realized I hadn't changed the combination before locking it, so I had no way to get in. My gym nightmare finally came true.

Tonight? I'm going to bed as soon as the wee ones do!

Is The Week Over Yet?

It has not been a good week at the Honest & Truly household.

On Tuesday, we brought the Square Jams to Mister Man's school to give to his teachers. I was proud of myself as I placed them onto the seat next to me as I drove carpool that morning. They had to be there that day since the next day was a PTO luncheon, and who wants three day old dessert on Thursday?

As we pulled away from Mister Man's school to head to Little Miss's school, I saw them still sitting on the seat next to me. I don't have spare time when getting everyone to school to actually stop and go inside the school when dropping them off, let alone once they've left the car, so I sighed and resigned myself to making a trip back to his school later in the day - because, you know, I didn't have anything else to do.

Pulling into Little Miss's school, I reached over to grab her backpack from the seat next to me. It wasn't there.
Ahhh, Little Miss, do you have your backpack in the seat back by you? I asked my child who sits in the way back where her carseat fits - and yes, she is five and a half and still riding in a five point harness car seat.
Ummmm, she looked wildly from left to right, and my heart began to sink.
Peanut, where is your backpack?
I think I forgot it at home, Mommy, she wailed piteously.

And apparently another trip was in order. I wouldn't do it for forgotten homework, but since she can't eat the school lunch and her snack was also in the backpack, I mentally added another forty plus minute round trip to my day.

I was headed downtown for a 3pm event, so I may sure to catch the 1 o'clock hour train so I had time to get there. After rushing around to make the train, I parked and paid my fee. Odd, no one was at the station. Usually, there's at least one other person waiting for the train. I looked at the schedule. There is a train every hour from 5am to 12am. Except 1pm. And so I drove.

On Wednesday, I arrived at Mister Man's school with my Spanish Rice a little late because the rice had refused to cook and was still a little ummm crunchy. At least I arrived, right?

As I walked through the halls, I saw children headed to gym. That's when I realized it was Wednesday and that it was possible that Mister Man had forgotten to wear his full uniform with the white shirt and instead was wearing a red shirt. For the first time in his two years at the school. Eh, he'll survive.

Then I saw kids in the courtyard. They were getting their class picture taken. No. No, the courtyard pictures were next week, not this week. Oops. Well, maybe Mister Man really was wearing a white shirt, and I was just being paranoid. Nope, I then remembered being happy that he was wearing a red shirt that morning as he ate strawberries so there would be no stain. Yeah. Oops.

This morning when we arrived at Little Miss's, I asked where her backpack was.
But Mommy, why didn't you put it in the car?
Ahhhhh because I never put it in the car, and that's your job to get your backpack in the morning? I sighed.
But Mommy, I don't have it!
How do you not have it, Sweetie? I saw you wearing it on your back as you were heading towards the door. How could you forget it again?
I don't know, Mommy, she answered miserably.

Once I finished serving the pancake breakfast and cleaning up after it, I headed home. As I pulled into the driveway, I saw this.

Because. You know. It's just been one of those weeks around here.

I'm a list person. I love making lists, and I love to cross things off the lists.

Earlier today, I was brimming with ideas for blog posts. If I remember correctly - and at this point, who knows if I do or not - I had a good five posts in my brain.

And now? I can't think of a single one of them. I composed many of them in my head even, and some of them were brilliant (I can say this now, as there's no proof to refute my statement). My mind has gone blank.

While musing over the posts, I debated opening Blogger and drafting the start of a few of them. I decided that wasn't necessary. I need to rethink that a bit. Oops.

Don't you hate it when you can't remember what you were going to say? And I can't even blame pregnancy brain.

I've had a bit of a busy week.

Tuesday I worked in the office and didn't get home until somewhat late. When I got home, I had to go through the volunteer schedules for a museum exhibit we were hosting yesterday and today at Little Miss's preschool and finalize some arrangements, which took until bedtime.

Yesterday I left the house at 8:20 to get to school for the museum training. I worked there until I left to pick up Mister Man for language group. I then returned to the school until around 1:30 - when neither Little Miss nor I had eaten lunch. We got home in time to eat a quick lunch, then she napped for 45 minutes (yeah, that was fun to wake her up) while I typed up the instructions for the additional volunteers based on the morning experience. I picked up the carpool and dropped them at their houses before running to the chiropractor. Then it was back to the preschool for our family night, and then to Mister Man's school for a presentation on next year's school stuff. By the time I got home, it was almost 10, and I had to straighten the house before bed.

Today, I got up, got the wee ones up and off to school, and then I worked. Amidst answering calls from the school about issues with the exhibits, I got done what I needed to, and then I made dinner and fed the wee ones and got them into bed. Somewhere in there I snuck in a load of laundry.

And now? Now I was planning to relax. I was going to quietly sit and catch up on blogs and get some reading done and maybe watch a bit of tv. Ahhhh....

Silly me. I checked my email and saw a note from the principal at Little Miss's school with her article for the newsletter. Oh. Yeah. I have to write the articles for the newsletter tonight and lay them out. I forgot about that. Or maybe I just blocked it out. Either way, it's back to work for me. Annnnnd maybe tomorrow I'll catch up on some of that relaxation.

There's no rest for the wicked!
