I Give Up

I live in Chicago. And I know I live in Chicago. Where we have all four seasons in a single day sometimes.

Regardless, I have certain rules about the weather. I don't wear a coat past May 1 or before October 1. I wear open toed shoes from Memorial Day through the first day of fall. I could go on, but I won't frighten you further.

Ok, I will. I also don't turn on the heat until at least October 15. My husband started pushing to turn the heat on at the end of September, but I resisted. It was sunny enough during the day that it warmed the house pretty well -- one benefit of a western exposure.

Then we went to St Louis for the weekend. And came back to a house that was 54 degrees.

*sigh*

We had to turn the heat on, and I hate hearing it kick on what feels like every twenty minutes. And I finally gave up on the idea of the wee ones wearing short sleeves and/or shorts again this year. I flipped their closets so that their winter clothes are easily within reach.

*sigh*

I do have to admit that sleeping with my mattress warmer on each night is kinda nice. Just don't tell my husband I'm already using it.

I'm with you on just about all of that! (duh)

I don't need a mattress warmer because my comforter is so thick that I feel like I'm practically beach-bound when I'm under it. A mattress warmer in conjunction with the comforter would totally cook me.

Oh, Michelle, my warm-weather loving soul agrees with you, but I have to say, after this year, my dreams and hopes of what weather *should* be like during the seasons have been destroyed.
At least we're in for some balmy 60-degree weather next week.

I so look forward to fall and the cooler weather. I guess growing up in TX makes me love when it cools off. I love being in CO now. :) Sorry you are having to break your rules.

I'm sure you can guess you're not gonna get any sympathy from me. ;-)

I don't like to turn on my heat before Oct 15 either but I have been turning it on at night for a few weeks. We have southern exposure for max. solar heat and damn we roast during the day but then freeze at night.

My house is an icebox even when it's hot out.

I'm hearing you. What is up with the weather? Good grief. We had snow here this week. Thank goodness it didn't lay.

I forgot about my bed warmer! Thanks! It's still in the 70-80s here, but I'm always cold. We prolly won't turn on the furnace until Nov. or Dec.

My mother has rules like those. Im just glad that my furnace still works!

A mattress warmer sounds good! Things are getting cold here in NY too. I didn't think I would need to put on the heat already. All of our cold feet and noses pushed me to turn it on.

Winter hit us hard and fast this year, and while we are getting into the 50 and 60s during the day, the nights are chilly! I finally emptied the summer clothes out of the kids' closets yesterday - summer sure didn't last that long this year!

Arg! It's aggravating to be forced to give up, but there's no candy quite as sweet. =)

I need to get one of those matress warmers.

LOL yeah, I hear you. We woke up to 44 degrees this morning (still windy so it says feels like 42). The house was at 64 (I like at least 66 if I can get it). So, this is officially our first cold morning. We seem to have jumped straight from summer to winter. Sniffle, sniffle. I miss FALL!?

Melisa - Of course you are! But I like the bed itself warm when I get in because I'm so cold... and I like a light blanket so I can stick my feet out and have my whole self still comfortable :)

Hyacynth - Yeah but only for one day now... I'm just tired of the "20 degrees below normal" every time I turn on the weather.

Clueless Mama - If I grew up in TX, I might agree... but I prefer my nice bubble of consistent 78 degrees, sunny, and a light breeze!

Jeff - Welllll no, I don't. I wasn't really expecting sympathy from anyone, more just hoping no one tossed in with their "well it's still 118 here, and I'm roasting" which I don't think anyone has. Yet.

Laura - We're western exposure, and it's been cloudy and rainy... or we might have been able to store up enough daytime heat. I'm ok with roasting during the day in this weather though!

Unknown Mami - Do you like it that way, or does it just stay cold?

Karen - Snow? Yikes. Ok, done complaining here.

Tara - You live in FLORIDA! What on earth are you doing with a bed warmer?

Cookie - It's all about extending summer for as long as possible. This year... we never got summer.

Kelly - Ohhh, go look into the mattress warmer. It rocks. And then drop subtle hints for Christmas!

Nichole - No, not here either. At least you're getting the 50s and 60s though. Sadly, we haven't even been getting that.

Teacher Tom - I hate giving up. On anything. Ever.

WeaselMomma - Oh but you do. It works even better than a husband. You and Kelly and drop your hints for Christmas presents together.

Angela - You don't want to hang out in my house then. I let it get down to 59 or 60 at night and usually 63 during the day unless the sun warms it further. No fall here either. *sigh*
