Obey His Rules

This morning, the wee ones and I were making pancakes (yes, from scratch and yes my own recipe) when the following conversation occurred.

Mister Man: Do you know who's a jolly happy soul?
Me: Yep, Santa.
Mister Man: No, it's Frosty the Snowman actually.
Me: Oh. Yeah, you're right. It is Frosty.
Mister Man: Do you know who else is a jolly happy soul?
Me: Ummm, no. Who else?
Mister Man: God.
Me: Really?
Mister Man: Yep, but only when you follow His rules.

That's not quite the answer I was expecting, and I was afraid to ask what happened if you didn't follow His rules. Mister Man does have a good point, although I'd never really thought of God as being a jolly happy soul. Gotta love what Sunday School does for the umm soul.

Somebody needs to straighten that boy out. What is he doing letting God get mixed up in Christmas? ;-)

Jeff: ROFL!

This was so cute. I'm glad you blogged it; it's one of those little moments that mostly gets forgotten later...now it won't!

Jeff - Perfect! Especially considering that we're public school kids and my husband TEACHES in the public schools.

Melisa - Yeah, these are the ones that I'd totally forget if I didn't, and how funny! I told my dad the story when we were at my parents' house today and he about choked on the nuts he was eating.

Perhaps smiting is about to make a revival?

J Cosmo Newbery - I'm beginning to wonder... you know, the innocent always know these things first. That or I need to talk to the Sunday School teacher about what's being discussed.

I would have answered Santa, too. We made homemade pancakes this morning, too, but no talk of jolly souls.

What a great story! I've taught Sunday School for 2 and 3 year olds with my husband so it's good to know some of it sinks in between the need to color and the requests for Animal Crackers!

krissy - Good to know I'm not the only one getting my Christmas carols confused! Amazing though how well it sticks with the wee ones....

Aly - Yes, it definitely sinks in. The wee ones come from every Sunday telling us about what they learned -- Moses parting the Red Sea or the story of creation or whatnot. It's sinking in! And hats off to you for teaching!
