I'm Like The Magician With The Bunny!
As you may recall, I sometimes have issues with losing things. I can search and search where I’m pretty sure I lost an item, but it will quite simply not be there. It’s the evil fairies – or maybe the underpants gnomes branching out.
So last summer, I lost a pair of sunglasses. I know that I go through sunglasses every couple of years, so I refuse to buy expensive ones. These sunglasses fell into the same category, but I’d actually really liked them, and I’d only gotten them the year before. I was bummed, but I moved on.
I vaguely remember looking for them for another couple weeks before finally giving in and buying a new pair. I didn’t like the new pair as much, and they weren’t just cheap, they were cheaply made. The nose clips broke off by late winter this year, so they were less comfortable, but not quite bad enough for me to justify throwing them away.
At some point this spring, I lost the bad sunglasses, and I happily bought new ones the next time I was in Target. I liked these ones better. Of course, that meant I found the bad ones a couple days later. For the first time, I now had two pairs of sunglasses. Oddly, I pretty much have only been wearing the new pair.
Last night, I pulled my cleats and glove out of my backpack (hey, I may have the tools, but that doesn’t really mean anything. With the cleats came a pair of sunglasses. As one of my teammates was talking about an expensive pair of prescription sunglasses she’d left behind last week, I immediately asked her if they were hers. Unfortunately for her they weren’t.
Anyone want to guess who those sunglasses belonged to? Yep, I’m now the proud owner of three pairs of sunglasses. I may be starting a pool for how quickly I’ll be back down to one pair and laying odds that the pair that remains is the bad pair. I can’t really complain though!

I didn't really want to admit this, but I buy my sunglasses at the dollar store for a similar reason. Ever since I had kids my sunglasses tend to get broken easily. Either I stuff them in the diaper bag and they get smushed or the kids get a hold of them. I dunno, they just always break. But at the dollar store I can buy a few pairs at once. Now, don't tell anyone else my secret ;)
That's cool - you can not have too many pairs of sunglasses - this is one of my motos!!
Thanks for your supportive comment tonight - I really appreciate it. See you soon - Kellan
i currently can not find my really nice beach cover up from j. crew. honestly how can i misplace that ????
LOL, I lose things too, usually my keys. Sunglasses too sometimes, but usually my keys.
Hope all goes well. You aren't in the part getting flooded are you?
Hope you and yours are well
Yeah, I hear you on the losing sunglasses thing-- happens to me every summer... and, I must say, I LOVE your title here! :)
Cookie - I promise I won't tell ANYone. The pair I don't like (with the broken clip parts) I got from Tuesday Morning, which is fairly close to the dollar store. I soooo get your theory.
Kellan - Really? I can't? I feel better now. I had been feeling guilty about having three pairs sitting around, with two obviously unused. Hope you're feeling better!
Feener - Easy. It's a nice coverup from J. Crew. Someone else really liked it, too. That or the underpants gnomes are really branching out!
MaBunny - Fortunately we are not where it's flooding. The Fox River is about a mile or so from me, and it's very high but not flooding houses near me (further north from me, yes, though!). We live in a 250 year flood plan (though with 2 100 year floods in 15 years...) and have a walkout basement, so we feel pretty comfortable where we're at. More monsoon-like rain -- with hail -- earlier today, and more scheduled this reason. I feel so horrible for so many people who have lost so much.... It is pretty cool to drive along River Road on the way to the gym and see how high the river is, until it shuts down the road anyway!
Morninglight Mama - Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one who loses sunglasses regularly. I can't figure out how they disappear when they do though. What's your strategy on purchasing the new ones?
I have been so incredibly lucky with sunglasses. They're something I necessitate spending way too much money on. After my dog chewed up my fave Ray-Ban's 9 years ago, I boycotted sunglasses altogether until I could afford a nice new pair. I'm happy to say that I've had my Ralph Lauren pair for 5 years now and almost cry every time I misplace them. It's a little ridiculous, but at least my thing isn't expensive shoes, right?! At least that's what I tell hubby.
Angie - The same sunglasses for 5 years? That would be a record for me. AND definitely cheaper than shoes. You've got the right angle for your husband!
