The Real Definition

We've all heard of bi-polar people. I always thought it was simply because of the extreme up and downs and some expert somewhere decided that poles were as oppposite as you could get, so bi-polar it was.

Nope, not really.

Bi-polar came about because of Chicago weather. We always joke that you can have all four seasons in a single day, but really that's a joke. It doesn't really happen.

Right now, I'm not laughing. Today is the first day of spring. The past few days have been wonderful. I've gone outside without a coat. The wee ones have been using their spring coats. My dear friend the sun has been showing his face, and it has been glorious.

Today? Not so much. We are going from one pole to the other here - winter spring winter - and I can only hope that our bi-polar trip finds some equillibrium soon and bring me back my precious spring.

This morning when I woke up:

This afternoon, with the snow not yet letting up:

C'mon. I want my spring back. Enough with the joke. It's just cruel after a long, cold, dreary winter.

I know the wish of which you speak!

Fortunately, they are predicting sun and warmth tomorrow, so maybe spring will finally defeat the snow. (Yesterday was almost blizzard like here with the wind and the snow. So maybe it will make it to you and then let the sun in.

Oooh, that is just mean! Please don't send it this way, we have been lulled into the state of no more cold weather!

Hyacynth March 20, 2010 at 10:41 PM

Oh, totally and completely agreed. And those poor, delicate little flowers. BUT 50s for next week is on tap. Sounds good to me!

Melisa Wells March 20, 2010 at 10:51 PM

I KNOW!! I was screaming about it when I looked outside this morning. SO ANNOYING!!!

At least the ground had a week to warm up, so the snow won't stick much. Spring will be back eventually...

Mrs4444 March 20, 2010 at 11:32 PM

No kidding! We had mid 50's a few days ago...back to 30's today. Poor flowers!!!

Laura March 21, 2010 at 12:54 AM

HA! today was the first day of spring and we are in full break up. I love it. We have gravel in the driveway and kids are loving it, chickens are happy and the sun will not stop shining!!

WeaselMomma March 21, 2010 at 5:54 AM

This weekend is a cruel joke.

Tara R. March 21, 2010 at 7:19 AM

You have my sympathies. This winter has been much too long.

Steph at Problem Solvin' Mom March 21, 2010 at 7:48 AM

I hear that snow is headed our way, after the 60 degree day we had yesterday...no wonder we all have the sniffles! Wishing us BOTH glorious spring days in the near future ;)

Hey, that's not fair! Wishing you a beautiful spring starting very, very soon Michelle!!!

In Colorado we say, "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes." Wednesday and Thursday we were near 70, and between Friday and Saturday we got almost 10 inches of snow. Today? Warm, sunny and in the 50s. Tomorrow we are supposed to get back up to 70, with more snow and rain for Tuesday and Wednesday. Thank goodness for the promise of a lush, green lawn without having to pay to water it!

Dan - It actually was very sunny here today, and the snow essentially melted. Baseball tomorrow may be back on.

Sue - Isn't it though? I'll do my best to keep the nasties away from you!

Hyacynth - I know. The crocus patch isn't going to survive this, I don't think.

Melisa - But it was SO much worse up by us. The further south we drove yesterday, the less snow. Finally we had no snow by the time we got to our cousin's. But UGH so wrong!

Mrs4444 - It was a cruel joke for the first day of spring, wasn't it?

Laura - Oh sure, show off there. The sun is actually the most important part to me. I'd be ok with snow sticking around if the sun would shine.

WeaselMomma - A VERY cruel joke. *sigh*

Tara - I know. And thank you for not rubbing it in since you ohhhh gee live in FLORIDA! :)

Steph - Glorious spring. Oh I'm looking forward to that someday. I hope the snow at least left you alone.

Kelly - Thanks. It is supposed to get into the 50s later this week, but I want it now (of course).

Nichole - Yep, that's how we are, too. And the green lawn? Oh, absolutely - until it stops raining in June and by the end of July it hurts to walk on the dried out grass!

Claudya Martinez March 21, 2010 at 11:27 PM

That's just not right.

MaBunny March 22, 2010 at 9:44 AM

Same here in Dallas Michelle. All last week, our Spring break, it was beautiful. Saturday the temps dropped and it started snowing. We woke up to everything covered yesterday too. It was all melted by the afternoon though.

Pat March 22, 2010 at 3:43 PM

A mean and cruel joke, yes indeed.

The crocuses look pretty in the snow, though. My guess is that by one week from today...no more snow.

Mom March 23, 2010 at 2:37 PM

So sad to see snow and flowers in the same picture I am with you come on Spring!!!!

Corrie Howe March 23, 2010 at 5:14 PM

Wow sad to see the lovely purple blossoms under the heavy snow. ;-(

Michelle March 23, 2010 at 10:21 PM

Unknown Mami - I appreciate you not rubbing this in. At all. Thank you.

Marcy - Wow, you got snow there, too? Yikes.

Pat - They were pretty, and actually they appear to have survived ok. I think it helped that it melted so quickly the next day.

Steph - I figured you would be. It was headed your way next. It's a neat juxtaposition - as long as it isn't happening to me!

Corrie - Isn't it? And they're such a pretty purple, too!
