This Is Why I Can't Have Nice Things

I've discussed the issue I have with my computer. And how I have in the past had issues with watches, too. And maybe I've talked about how I lose sunglasses on occasion. This is why I buy the not so expensive watches and sunglasses. They're cute to look at, but I never spend more than $10 or so on them, knowing that I'll get at most a year out of them.

Last October, while in Florida on vacation, my watch stopped working. Apparently it decided it needed a vacation, too. Since I was on vacation, I didn't replace it right away. And when I got back, I was busy. Long story short, I didn't get a new watch until a couple months ago.

This is my watch.

Notice anything odd about it? Take a closer look. (Hey, I discovered my camera has a macro option -- how cool is that?)

Hmmm, maybe from a different angle?

Yep, the crystal broke. The good news is that the watch still works. But I know it's really only a matter of time. In fact, when I was in Costco today (more on this Costco trip another day, I promise!), I actually perused the watches, but nothing struck my fancy.

I didn't drop my watch. The wee ones didn't get to my watch. I honestly have no idea how this happened. On the other hand, it does explain the two small bits of glass that Little Miss discovered on the their bathroom floor last night. Here I thought it was something that the in-laws broke when they were visiting recently. Now I know.

Anyone know of a good looking indestructible watch?

How about an El Cheapo On Sale Target watch for $5 - okay, in your case many El Cheapo On Sale watches. That way when you break one you can just switch it out and no one will be the wiser.
Or you can go the the classy kiddie section and look for the "Never Destruct Until You Can't Stand To Look At Then Anymore" kiddie watches. Maybe.

Or give up and use you cell phone.

Of course, ahem, I know nothing about this third option.

I gave up and stopped wearing a watch a few years ago. I have several here, somewhere. I use my cell phone or microwave, although that may be a bit cumbersome to caryy around daily. Who cares what time it is!

Jules - The current watch is El Cheapo from Target. And maybe I should just buy a new one and return this one in the new one's box ;) And I used my cell for about 8 months this year already. But now I have a new one (we're a Verizon family, now) and it doesn't light up unless I open it, which is a huge pain. Still ticking right now though!

Megryansmom - I need to know what time it is so that I know how late I am to be picking up a wee one or dropping one off or to a meeting or to a yoga class or to a friend's or .... actually, maybe I do like the idea of carrying a microwave. It'd give me a great distraction, right?

The Broken Man - No kidding. I still don't get it. And yes, I seriously considered gluing those two pieces back into the face. I resisted though.

Melisa - Thanks... I'll have to check that out.

Cookie - Had I bought one for more than $12.99, maybe. This one? Not so much! Good thought though!

Can't help you here. I have the same watch that hubby bought me on our honeymoon 12 years ago. Now, I quit wearing it once the kids were born, just for convenience sake, but once I get the battery replaced, I'm wearing it again.
