Recipe For Sleep

Want your kids to do this?

It's easy. Spend the morning at the pool. Be sure that there are lots of throws into the air and dunkings under water. Keep everyone in constant motion.

Then head to a birthday party. Call ahead to arrange for a bouncy house and a trampoline to be available as the entertainment. Whenever a child runs near you, encourage said child to move onto the jumping item that was just abandoned.

Feeding the children a lunch will help, but is not required. Once you arrive home, simply place children into their beds and quietly close their doors. You'll have three to four hours -- depending upon your child -- to spend reading blogs or taking a bubble bath or whatever you choose. A glass of wine is optional.

Oh I am going to try this today! Looking forward to nap time already :)

That is perfectly awesome. I LOVE tired out kids who make no fuss at naptime. Although at this point, I think I'd be crashing in my own bed minutes after they went down!

Aounds like they were pooped out for sure! I have one of Nicole when she was 3 I think, after she camehome from a birthdya party , crawled up on the couch and passed out , still with her birthday hat on, lol

Well, I'm glad SOMEONE finally gave me the secret recipe. Thanks!

Fun fun fun! I am still waiting for someone to create bouncy houses for grown ups. I would LOVE that.

Your troopers look like they had a wonderful summer day!

Oh man, you are so lucky! If I were to try this method and put the kids in their rooms to sleep, they'd use that time to break a snowglobe and a light fixture, drag out 678 toys, tear down the curtains, change clothes 11 times (leaving each discarded outfit in a heap on the floor), and tie their siblings up with a chain of socks tied together.

I am so with you one this one. We go swimming often just for that reason.
Thanks for the comments the other day on my features.

Megryansmom - Let me know how it works out for you!

Morninglight Mama - The only reason that there is no Mommy nap also going on is the fact that Mommy simply cannot nap regardless of how tired she is. The fact that my husband can sleep on command of course drives me batty.

Mabunny - They were DEFINITELY pooped. Mister Man only sleeps during naptime maybe once a week or less (or no rest at all today with two birthday parties). I did get all the birthday accoutrements off them at least!

Angie - It's a deep dark secret, can't you tell?

Angela - We have a bouncy house that Santa brought last year (via UPS but it didn't "fit in the sleigh") and it's safe up to 300 pounds in it. It's *possible* that I've gone in it once or twice. And Pump It Up is totally cool for/with adults jumping!

Dawn - I'm afraid you're going to give the wee ones some ideas here! I will say that I've had to chase Mister Man back into his room and stop him from jumping on things/playing too loudly before, but so far (knock on wood) that's as bad as it's been!

Jen - Welcome! Congrats on your feature, and good to know that the swimming works on more than just my wee ones.

The swimming sleep. Awesome. Isn't it amazing what four hours of quiet time can do for mom's psyche?
