How Long Can This Love Last?

With a chest X-ray this morning, it's official that Little Miss has pneumonia. Again. Fortunately, we caught it very early - the doctor didn't even hear anything in her lungs and it was fortunately still very small. That said, I think we're done with dairy for at least a couple weeks until she recovers. Coincidence that in 18 months being dairy free she didn't get so much as a cold and two months into reintroducing dairy she has pneumonia?

We are again home, and I have a short respite right now while Little Miss takes a nap. This is her third day home, and it's really starting to hit home to him that she's seriously sick and missing out on things.

This morning as he's getting ready for school:

Mommy, can you take Little Miss's temperature so we can see if she can go to school today? he asked worriedly.

Sorry, Mister Man. With a temp of 103.6 yesterday afternoon, even if she had no fever this morning, she still isn't well enough to go to school today, I explained.

You mean she's going to miss her Halloween party at school?! he wanted to know.

Unfortunately, she is, Kiddo, I confirmed.

But it's ok, because Grandma is going to come over to our house this afternoon and have a little Halloween here for her, right?

Yep, she'll be here when we go to your friend's party and will do something fun with her.

I think I'm going to ask for extra stuff at my Halloween party at school so she can have it at home later, he decided.

That's very sweet.

And, Mommy, the cookies we're taking to Henry's (not his real name) party this afternoon, can we leave some here for her so she can have a cookie at her party, too?

Of course. Of course we can leave a cookie behind for her. I love how he worries about her and wants to take care of her all the time, but especially when she's not feeling well. These are the days where my heart swells with pride. I can only hope that as they grow older, they don't grow apart and they continue to love and respect each other the way they do now.

The Little Stinker!

Do you have or know a little girl? There's a brand new line of dolls out there, and I'm giving one away with my Hot Locks giveaway!

There is also a brand new giveaway for probiotics here.

This afternoon, Little Miss called out to me from the other room, with a huge smile on her face.

Mommy! I love you.

That was it. Just that simple statement that she periodically throws out there to me. It makes me smile every time, and I responded as I frequently do.

Do you know what, Peanut?

You love me, too, Mommy! comes the delighted shout from the other room. She loves playing this game, and who can blame her?

You know it! I'll always love you no matter what, forever and ever.

She went happily back to her play, and my husband at this point poked his head up, indignant that he hadn't been included in the declarations of love.

Well, what about me, Little Miss? he inquired.

Yeah.

That was her only - and somewhat enthusiastic - response, as she'd already gone back to playing. I giggled. Or possibly belly laughed.

That's A Lot Of Love

Little Miss loves me. A lot. And she tells me frequently. I'm still trying to figure out if this is something that she does because she's that demonstrative, because she's really insecure and needs to be reaffirmed all the time (ummm unlikely knowing her), or whether she just thinks it's funny. Regardless, we had what I thought was a rather entertaining conversation yesterday.

Little Miss: Mommy, I love you.
Me: Yes, my little peanut, I know.
Little Miss: And you love me, too!
Me: I do. And how do you know that? (Here I'm expecting some four year old version of because I show her on a daily basis.)
Little Miss: Because you've told me like a thousand times.
Me: Oh, I think I've told you more often than that.
Little Miss: Ok, you've told me you love me a hundred times!
Me: Ummm, definitely more than a hundred times.
Little Miss: Fine. You've told me one hundred forty-nine times then.

Apparently I haven't been doing such a good job teaching her to count.

Mommy Love

My husband came home from the store where he had taken Mister Man to relay this. If only I'd been there.

Pssst. Psst, Daddy! That lady asked that little girl who had the best mommy ever, and the little girl said she did, but that's not true! I have the best mommy ever. She's wrong!

I can only hope he feels the same way five, ten, fifteen years from now. Thanks, Mister Man. I love you, and you're the greatest kid ever!

You Love Who?

And another installment of from the mouths of babes. Setting the scene: Little Miss is eating her dinner of soy milk pancakes (a Monday night tradition since Mommy gets home from work late and Daddy cooks the only thing Daddy knows how!). She peeks up at me through coy, lash hidden eyes.

Little Miss: Mommy, I like you!
Me: Guess what? I love you!
Little Miss: I love you, too!
Mister Man: I love her the mostest.
Me: Oh, you do, do you? Little Miss, who do you love the most?
Little Miss: I love you the most, Mommy!
Me: Awww, you're such a sweet girl. Mister Man, who do you love the most?
Mister Man: I love Little Miss the most. I already said that.
Me: Well, what about the woman who gave birth to you?
Mister Man: Oh, Grandma? I suppose I love her the most, too.

Ummm. I think I need to have a little chat with Mister Man about how the world really works. I'm not quite up for the birds and the bees, but we may be starting to get a little close!
