Letters To The Tooth Fairy Backfire

As my husband and I drove to dinner the other day, I received a frantic call from Mister Man.

Mom!  Mom!  You'll never guess what just happened, he exclaimed.

Ummmm, you just lost your tooth? I inquired innocently.

Yes!  I said that I was about to lose a tooth and then I reached into my mouth and I pulled it out, and now I have a mouth full of blood, he declared proudly.

Oh, that's wonderful, Mister Man, I replied.

Yep, and as soon as I finish dinner, I'm going to go upstairs and brush my tooth really well.  It has a little bit of black on it, and I don't want her to throw it away.

Oh.  Oops.  Yeah, about that.  Remember how the wee ones have been writing letters to the Tooth Fairy?  And how the Tooth Fairy wrote back?  Yeah....

In the most recent letter, Mister Man had asked what the Tooth Fairy does with the teeth she collects.  She wrote back that she uses teeth to build her castle and that she has to keep getting more teeth because she needs to rebuild the walls when the dragon comes and knocks them down.  What I thought was my stroke of brilliance was adding that she was always looking for more teeth because she wanted the whitest, shiniest, cleanest teeth possible and that she threw away the dirty ones when she received better ones.

Brilliant, right?  What better motivation to brush well and keep teeth clean than that, right?

Apparently not so much with my wee ones.  Mister Man decided to simply clean his tooth after it was out of his mouth.  Of course.

Now I'm afraid to see what havoc the most recent letter has wrought.

So what were your "brilliant" ideas that went bad?

The dragon story was awesome! Who is Ziona?

Hilarious! Mr. Man is creative, curious and a good writer. Now you have some questions to answer! I enjoyed catching up on your last many posts.

My brilliant idea that went bad was for foiling the deer--keeping them from eating my flowers. I stuck old tennis balls onto pieces of spare pvc pipe, stuck them in the ground all around my flower bed, spread plastic bird netting over them and put rocks on the edges of the netting to keep it down. Well, the deer just knocked over the pipes/tennis balls and yanked up the bird netting and munched away, decimating my flower bed again. :(

Very creative but I guess the Wee ones have their own interpretation! Too cute!

How adorable! Kids always think in ways that grownups don't anticipate! I almost wanted to tell DD who the Tooth Fairy was, but DH objected because he thinks that DD *wants* to believe in it, even though logic is beginning to set in. So we'll let her discover the real identity on her own...

Ha! That is a great story-- Building castles with teeth.

But, Mister Man "working the system" is a hoot.

haha we have many tooth fairy stories...we have to keep thinking of new ones because she forgets to pick up the tooth so many times.

Rita - I had to ask him that one. Apparently it's a name he made up for himself. Except he can't pronounce it. Go fig.

Pat - Oh those deer! I feel your pain. They eat my tulips every year. We have a Scarecrow that keeps them away from the garden though - a motion activated spray hose. It's awesome.

Patty - Oh, they always do. They always always do!

Sandra - No kidding! Logic will someday set in, but will is a powerful thing, too.

Joanna - Working the syste is special, isn't it? I do like his effort though.

Annmarie - Yeah, that ummm sometimes happens here. Fortunately, the wee ones usually come up with their own stories and rationales. Phew!
