Why One Cat Is Fat. And The Other... Is Not

You know that we have cats, right? We've had Meow and Roar since Mister Man was three. He was the one who named them, actually, back when he wanted a lion instead of a cat. Meow and Roar were older kittens at the time. They were strays, maybe 10 months old, and Meow was the smaller of the two kittens.

Oh how times have changed.

Roar - the all orange one - is now the smaller cat, by a lot. The cats are brothers, so who knew they'd become such different cats as they grew. The other day, my husband called me over to show me that he'd figured out the issue.

Things I've Learned

1. Meow likes to eat.
2. Roar is sort of dainty.
3. Meow is a pig.
4. Meow needs to learn manners.
5. Meow is a rude pig.
6. Roar always expects that there will be a little more.
7. Meow has an insatiable appetite and won't let anyone or anything get in his way.
8. If you want to poison my cats, Meow will happily scarf down anything and everything. You might have to sweeten the pot for Roar.
9. Meow is a huge, rude pig.
10. There's a good reason Meow is fatter.

This is so cute a video! Haha, this can be said about my two kids! One is a good eater, and the other, um, not so much. Meow and Roar are beautiful kitties!

Yeah, there's always one in the crowd that is a pig, and one who just decides to let the pig have his/her way. I've found that often pigs were runts early on and/or missed meals somewhere along the way, so they just don't quite trust that the food will always be there. My latest was Mollie, who was rescued from a situation where she & the other cats with her were fed every few days instead of daily. Even 8 years after she left that situation, she was never sure that her next meal would arrive on time. The rest of them just let her be a bit of a pig.

That's funny! We have similar problems at our house. The 2 girls won't let the old man eat. So I keep a bowl out at all times with dry food. That way anyone can eat when they want. This cuts down on meal time chaos. But if there is even a tiny hole in the bowl, the old man lets us know. He is serious about the food bowl, which is why it's so funny that he lets the girls bully him out of eating. Cats definitely have their own personalities!

WOW! We have cats that do the exact same thing. Libby is a porker and Colbie is dainty. Very funny video

Sandra - It isn't that Roar isn't a good eater... he's just not aggressive enough. It reminds me of the families where the youngest kid eats SO fast because there's no food otherwise.

Raevyn - I'm sure that's what it is, as both cats were strays. I leave a bowl out for them to free feed so they know it's always there. If not, he'll eat fast enough that he'll throw it back up :s

Alicia - A hole in the bowl? That's funny. So cute how persnickety he is.

Kelly - Thanks. They are cute cats, in my completely unbiased opinion....

Tami - Yep, it's definitely not uncommon. But now we know WHY it is. We couldn't really figure it out before then. How is Colbie doing?

So Roar will never have a weight problem. He didn't seem too worried about Meow eating what was specifically given to him.

Pat - He absolutely didn't. And I sort of feel like this has a life lesson in there somewhere. He's happy. He doesn't have it all in the sense that we traditionally think about it, but he's content with what he has, takes what he needs but doesn't keep pushing and pushing. Hmmm, this may be another blog post.
