I'm Not Joking When I Say I'm Not Photogenic

With my resolve to update my blog - and improve it, of course - I realized I should probably update my profile picture. I use the same photo across all sites from my Facebook fan page (you do like my Facebook page, right?) to Twitter (ummm, and of course you follow my brilliant witticisms on Twitter, too?) to my profile here and on Google+ (no comment needed, I assume). The photo is a year and a half or two years old. It was taken long before I donated my hair last year, which actually wasn't the first time I donated my hair. Since that time, I haven't taken a decent picture.

Seriously.

I have no pictures of myself that weren't, quite simply, hideous. I take horrid pictures. If I'm going to put up a photo, I at least want it to be a good one, right? And I tried. I truly, truly tried. And I failed miserably. With the planned change in my blog, it's time to really change my profile, however. I've spent enough times meeting people and going to conferences handing out cards and explaining that yes, the photo on the card actually is me, but I have no hair now. It's time.

I enlisted the help a friend of mine to take photos. We took (well, ok, she took over four hundred photos. I've culled them, and I'm still not sure what I'll put up. That said, I stand by my assessment that I take horrid photos. I was trying - honestly trying - for a good photo.

Really, I was trying. And having said that, I don't think I get to complain anymore about trying to take pictures of the wee ones. Apparently, when they say they're trying, they really are.

There were a few photos that merit consideration, but none of them really stand out as saying "Wow! Choose this one as the profile picture because it's so awesome!" - much to my disappointment, of course. Does anyone have tips on how to smile normally? Or at least naturally?

Below are the photos I'm currently considering making my new profile pic. I'm begging for your thoughts and suggestions and preferences because obviously this is a decision that I'm not up to making by myself. Besides, I figured you could use a laugh. Leave a comment with your vote (and other suggestions)? I have one semi-favorite, but I'm not telling you which one it is!

Oh my! You look SO different than your profile picture. I personally like the one where you are laughing with your hand over your mouth. (6th one from the bottom) and the very last one without your glasses. It looks like you had fun getting your picture taken though! =)

I always say it is impossible to get a good picture of me.

My favorite is #2. You have a natural smile, and looking away from the camera means you weren't trying (haha, you weren't trying, right?) I like your hair short! And I like the glasses, too. Really, you're on Twitter?

i like the first or 2nd one!

You are a supermodel compared to my recent photos. And by recent, I mean those photos of me taken in the last decade. All of them. Oy. I like the pics of you!

Tami - I know. It's totally different with short hair versus long. And of course the curly vs straightened.... I did have fun with my pictures but ummm boy was it a challenge ;)

jodifur - Every once in awhile you can catch one of me, but it has to be at the right angle during the second full moon of the month as precisely 4:32pm and I can't know you're taking the photo....

Sandra - Ummm yeah. Yeah, I wasn't trying. Ahem. You've seen me with short hair and glasses though! And uhhhh yes I'm on Twitter :)

Melissa - Ok, so we have 2 votes for #2 right now. Hmmmm. PS That wasn't one of my favorites ;)

Mary - Supermodel? That's not a good sign for your photos.... That said, I insist that you're exaggerating.

Absolutely the second is my favorite.

Also, photo tips: have person taking your picture be slightly higher than you. And before the picture fake laugh and that is supposed to help (it's also a tip when photographing kids). =)

Brandie - That one seems to be winning so far.... Fake laugh? Really? That one I'll have to try. I do remember the slightly higher thing, and ummm she wasn't. She's shorter than I am ;)

I LOVE it. Your hair looks so cute.

I like number 2 :)

I like #9 in the first batch and the last one in the second batch. I find that forcing myself to laugh usually makes a fairly good photo.

I find that I look better in photos than in real life.

Jerry (my hubby) like photo #2 in the second batch the best. Actually, looking at them again, I think that one is my favorite, too.

I like the last one too!

#2 for sure! Looks very natural and flattering. :)

Stacey - Thanks, but ummm... wanna trade? You have no idea how much I miss putting my hair up in a ponytail!

Robin - Thanks. I think that one's by far the leader.

Pat - Oh, I've tried forcing myself to laugh. I still look like a goofball :)

Teresa - That one's not bad, but it looks like I have a huge crick in my neck. I have a huge issue with keeping my head straight for pictures. Go fig.

Amanda - Aww, you're so sweet. Number 2 it is!
