*This* Is Not My Child

Little Miss still naps. Yay! Most of the time, she actually sleeps, but there are times when I have to head upstairs during naptime to figure out what she's doing up there. I've yet to fully decipher the bangs and what the differnt kinds mean.

Yesterday, I was hearing noises that I was pretty sure meant Little Miss was jumping on her bed, which is a no-no in regular times (her bed isn't built to withstand that) and definitely verboten during naptime. I sighed and headed upstairs.

I found her laying atop her bed bouncing slightly, and whining.

Hey, Peanut, what's the problem with sleeping here?

I'm cold!

Well, of course you're cold. Climb back under your covers, silly girl.

And then the crying ensued. Seriously, this girl needs to pursue a career in drama. She has got the crocodile tears thing down pat. Ohhh the horrors of childhood in my house.

I finally got her calmed down enough to tell me what the problem is. But, Moooooooooooom, if I get under the covers, then the bed will get all messed up again!

Oh. Huh. Well, yeah, now that she mentions it, I notice that her bed is rather ... organized. Her blankets are folded, and I don't remember having done that in the past few days. Hmmm.

The truth finally comes out. Little Miss made her bed this morning, unbeknownst to me. When I put her down for her nap, I not only put her under her covers, but I also "ruined" the blankets by covering her with them. While I'd been downstairs, she'd remade her bed and refolded all the blankets. And rearranged all her stuffed animals.

Oh.

Well.

I'm not quite sure where this came from. My bed gets made on the days when I change my sheets, and that's it. I tried briefly to teach Mister Man to make his bed a couple years ago, but it didn't take, and I let it go. It just isn't that big a deal to me.

I'm pretty sure an alien is inhabiting my daughter's body. On the other hand, I'm not sure that this is an entirely bad thing.

In the end, we struck a bargain. She'd take her nap - under her covers - and I'd help her remake her bed after naptime.

I had to wake her up three hours later from a nice, sound sleep. And then she directed me in exactly what I had to do (while she helped) to fix her bed just the way it's supposed to be.

Weird, I know. How long do you suppose this stage lasts?

Is that weird?? I still do that to this day. I can not get out of bed without making it. I have been known to make my side when hubby is still sleeping! And I can not go to bed with my sheets messed up! haha!

I am so completly anal and OCD about my bed (and the rest of the beds in my house) it is ridiculous! I don't see much of it in Maren, but Cooper is taking after his Momma on those things. Bless her heart for being so upset over it!

Ha ha!! I never make my bed either. And I do not stick on my son to do it. To me making the bed is fairly useless. But, hey there are times when my son makes his bed anyway and that is fine with me. :)

She looks very happy with her very well made bed. :)

Wow she is so cute Michelle! How old is she? 4? Hmmm I bet this is just her thing. We have a whistler who whistles day in and day out even when he is sent to his room. It's what he does. I love her little smile, so cute!!

How sweet. Guess who is going to be Mommy's Little Type A?

I'm not sure - but maybe she can be the bedmaker for the whole HOUSE. I seldom make mine - but find that when I do, it makes the whole room look a little more polished.

Even if there is still a pile of laundry within eye-sight!

I, too, make my bed only when I wash the sheets, and I don't even do that with the kids. Hannah and Eli are teenagers and can either make their bed or not, I don't care. Sam and Owen both have bottom sheets but no top sheets because they like to "nest" in their beds, so I can't really think of a time when their beds WERE made. If I have company over (which thank heavens I never do because my house is just not big enough), I might make them but...nah, probably not even then. So-maybe she will always be a bed maker, and you can spend lots of time wondering where THAT came from!

Wow, that's awesome--she is a very neat and tidy child. Wish it had come naturally to my kids. Maybe it didn't because I'm not that way.

Can she come over? We have a few beds... she would have a great time!

LOL! I had to laugh as my daughter did this before. She slept on top of the covers with a little blanket on top of her, so she wouldn't have to make the bed. LOL!

Casey - No, it isn't weird. It's just something she's never been taught, but she picked it up. Me, I don't see the point in making my bed since I'm just going to mess it up again!

Nichole - Bless her little heart is right. (I love that phrase.)

Upstatemomof3 - She was SO proud of her bed and what she did with it. And it's made again this morning.

Laura - She's 4 1/4, yes. It may well be her thing, and if it is - more power to her. I'm all for it!

WeaselMomma - Ummm they both are in different ways? You should have seen Mister Man putting away the Zingo game tonight and making sure the piles on each side were EXACTLY even.

Regina - It absolutely makes the room look more polished. I'm with ya on that... I just rarely have the initiative to make it. And unfortunately she's only making her bed in her room so far.

Kori - I love the attitude, especially for the teens! Too funny on the nesting. I love the different ways kids find to sleep.

Pat - Ummm yeah... neat and tidy. Uh-huh. We'll pretend she didn't freak out over being asked to help put away the toy kitchen this afternoon. Or her dressup clothes. Or her soccer balls.

Mary - Yeah... I'll have her get right over there ;) I should have her organize my bed and see what she comes up with. Hmmmm maybe a project for tomorrow?

Sherry - I'll admit I used to do the same thing, but that's because my mom insisted I have my bed made each morning before school. Maybe that's why I don't make my bed now. Hmmmm....

3 hours!!! What I wouldn't do for a 3 hour nap? I'd even make the bed afterward.

When do any of these phases end? I feel like one phase just rolls into the next. I don't think I had so many phases. I'll have to ask my mom. She'll probably have a different memory of that time :) Love the picture of Little Miss on her bed. Such a cutie.

Hyacynth March 11, 2010 at 6:54 PM

Maybe she's just one of those seriously, compulsively clean people. But, honestly, I love it when little pieces of their personality come out unexpectedly.

Michelle March 12, 2010 at 9:48 PM

Unknown Mami - The wee ones are sleepers, and I'm grateful for it. But ummm I'm still not making the bed ;) I'm an ungrateful snot, aren't I?

Kelly - I don't remember the phases either. I think I was always just perfect like this. ;) Again, I think my mom might disagree.

Hyacynth - Uhhh yeah. Just what I need. Given the addictive personalities in her genetics, we don't need any compulsions. But hey, I'll go with the clean for now. She's now refusing to use her "extra" blankets and only her quilt and sheet because they mess up her bed. Silly girl!

WM is right: totally type A!
Buckle your seatbelt! :)

Michelle March 24, 2010 at 11:23 PM

Melisa - Yeah... I figure I'm in trouble when she took the job at the birthday party this weekend to throw away all the wrapping paper. And no one was allowed to help her. Yikes :)
