Surely, There Must Be A Solution

I hate this time of year. I have to put away my fun summer shoes and - gah! - once again wear socks. My toes are very sad right about now. Although I'm in desperate need of a pedicure, so maybe this is a good thing.

I'm back to my responsible shoes now. Although looking at them in this picture, I can see that they at the very least need a good polish and at the most replacing. By something more fun.

This isn't the part I hate the most about this time of year. I hate having to wear socks. At least when I go to work they aren't the constantly running, itchy, icky, old lady nylons women used to have to wear. I can get away with socks that are far easier to put on.

But then this happens.

About forty times a day. I pull them up, they slide down. Then I get irritated and leave them there.

Granted, they're still better than nylons. MUCH better. And it isn't just these socks. This happens no matter what socks I wear.

I have to be doing something wrong. And since we in Chicago have another eight months before my toes will see the light of day and be freed from their confines, can any of you help me out here?

Funny! Don't they have those things that old men wear like rubber bands around their legs? ;) I hear it's so sexy!

I hate wearing socks too.

I usually just let my leg hair grow until it is thick and long enough to give the illusion that I am wearing stockings. In the winter, Chewbacca is the new black!

Laura said it - Sam might still have his military issue ones around if you need a set.

Because I live in the south I have no suggestions. We are still in shorts and during the winter we wear capris. Here no one wears nylons at all anymore. Not even to work in the winter.

I have the same bad luck with socks. I miss the open shoes of summer too. Since I'm home all the time, I wear sneakers most of the time anyway :)

I wear pretty short socks--just tall enough so their tops don't show when I'm seated and have my legs crossed. I've been known to borrow my husband's nice soft dress socks and they're pretty bood about standing tall.

Pat October 7, 2009 at 10:05 AM

Er...I meant pretty good about standing tall.

But bood should be a word..maybe something exactly between bad and good.

Stubble will keep 'em up!

Saggy socks are so un-sexy, aren't they? I hate to tell Mary that I have plenty of nasty stubble and it fails to keep socks up. You'd think the stubble would be worth something, but sadly, no.

I know what you mean -- I live in Toronto and I refuse to do nylons or saggy socks no matter how cold it gets! I saved up my cash and bought a pair of thigh-length boots to wear outside (I wear socks with them, obviously, but you can't see them so I wear athletic socks that stay up) and at work I switch to my comfortable flats, which I wear barefoot. In SUPER cold weather, I wear legwarmers with my boots and they just look like wool leggings. Good luck with the sock dilemma!

And it always seems that your socks fall down when you're in a hurry and bunch up in the heel so that you have to stop and pull them up. Now I try to make sure those socks go directly to the *I only sleep in them at night cuz it's freakin cold in Michigan* pile!

Cookie - Ummm, are you calling me an old man now?

Laura - Uhhh yeah. I'll avoid the eww factor, thanks.

Unknown Mami - But lucky you, you get to avoid it a whole lot longer than I do!

WeaselMomma - Interesting theory. Unfortunately, I don't think my genes allow my hair to grow QUITE that thickly. Close but not quite.

Karen - Ummm I think I'll pass, but thanks for the offer?

Tam - You had to rub that in, didn't you? :)

Kelly - Well yeah... when I'm home I can do that. But the one day a week I go into the office I have to be ... presentable.

Pat - Hmmm. I may have to try that one. Do you suppose my husband would notice?

Mary - You sound like you're pretty familiar with that rationale!

Shelly - Totally. Not that I want to be *sexy* while at the office, but ....

Adelaide - Hmmmm legwarmers with boots. I'm kinda liking that idea. Very retro.

Carol Lynn - Oh no no no, my cold feet sock pile isn't my rejects. That pile is my extra thick comfy socks!

I liked Weaselmomma's suggestion, but if you don't want to do that...how about a sock tattoo?

I guess not.

That's a very nice leg you got there, especially the middle where you posed your leg with your trouser sock rolled up. Very sexy.

Michelle March 8, 2010 at 9:45 PM

Melisa - Ummm yeah... I can just see the sock tattoo look in the middle of summer with sandals. Ha!

Anon - Ummmm yeah. That was exactly the look I was going for. If only everyone were so easy to please.
