It's The Little Things That Make Me Happy

This is another of those gifts I received that I would never have bought for myself and never even lusted after. In fact, I never knew it existed before my husband presented it to me one Christmas.

We've had our temperature gauge for a few years now. It is attached to our deck and monitors the outside temperature. It also tells time. And we have two units. One sits on the main level in the kitchen and also tells the indoor temperature, among other features.

My favorite one lives upstairs in our bathroom though. This one not only tells the indoor temperature and humidity levels, it shows you.

Disclaimer: Yes, those are icky brass fixtures on the bathtub. And yes, that is a dusky rose tile on the surround. Fortunately you can't see the black and white diamond tile floors or other atrocities like the trickle of water that comes from my shower. I need a new bathroom, I know this. Just focus on the cool toy and pretend you don't see the icky styled bathroom.

See how cute that little dude is wearing his pants, hat, and jacket? As it gets colder, he'll add mittens and a scarf. As it gets warmer, he'll lose the jacket, and eventually he'll end up in just a little bathing suit wearing a big smile and some freckles. Granted, I won't see this again for months and months. And months. And months.

And I might be making it up that he's holding a beach ball when it's 90 degrees, but the fact that I have a little dude telling me how cold it is outside with his outfits always makes me giggle. And there are definitely some mornings when I need that.

What's your favorite little thing that gets you smiling for no good reason?

Why don't we just open up a blog shingle together and get it over with? :) You are hilarious. While I'm telling you that nobody would have even noticed your fixture or tile, I can also assert that if it was something that bothered me (and would you believe that I also hate my bathroom, and it also has old fixtures AND pinkish tile?), I would have typed it just like you did. :)

Anyway, hmmm. Something that makes me happy for no reason at all? An art bowl that's on my kitchen counter; my BFF Kate (from Tennessee) bought it for me for Hanukkah last year. She saw it in a gallery and thought it would look good in my kitchen, with my Italian/marbly tile...and her memory of my kitchen was perfect because the bowl looks like it totally belongs.

Oh My God! You have the most disgusting nasty bathroom ever, no oh wait that was me. 1970s gold(metallic) paper with orange and yellow stripes, carpet and mold-nice then we remodeled, wobbled on the edge of remodel divorce(joking) and now have a gorgeous bathroom I love.

I love the little guy and I bet mister man loves to check him out my 6 yo would!

I love to hear my rooster crow, he always makes me smile especially when he sidles up to me and acts like I'm one of his girls and crows right at me-always makes me laugh!

OK truth on the remodel, when I tore out the drop ceiling(!!!) I was literally covered in mouse and squirrel ahem uhh 'stuff' they had lived up there quite a while-YUCK!!!

I LOVE your little toy! Mr.4444 gave me one of those for Christmas one year, but mine did not have the cute little guy on it, AND it has disappeared. Guess I know what to put on my list this year! :)

Yes, I know. I should not be here--I have 500 things to do this morning. Just thinking of you and hoping you worked out the roadtrip!!! :)

I love it! I've got one but mine doesn't have a little man telling me how to dress for the day! ;(

That temp gauge is SO cute. Now I want one.

When I was a boy, we had a "weather forecaster" that looked like a little cuckoo clock. There was a man in rain gear on one end of a pivot and a woman in sunny weather clothing on the other. I'm not sure how it worked, but you could tell what the weather was going to be based on which one was standing in front of the house.

I have 4 bouncing buddhas on the dashboard of my car. They make me very happy for no reason at all.

That's really cute! I would want one of those too! I love the little plaque hanging in my bedroom about the joys of family and friends. It always makes me smile :)

That is cute! I've never seen a gauge like that.

(We won't discuss my bathroom decor)

MaBunny October 24, 2009 at 6:12 PM

Your post made me smile tonight. First smile since 5:25pm. And I'm going to be on the lookout for that temp gauge!

That is awesome. I love the little guy!! I'd be lighting a candle by him or something just to make the clothes come off.

Hubby got one of these several years ago, and at the time I thought it was the lamest purchase ever (we lived in San Diego . . . the little man hardly ever even put on pants!) I have to admit that I am now a fan, and look at ours daily (mostly because the local weatherman can't seem to come within an inch of the forecast.)

Right now the 'little thing' making me happy is the swag of fake leaves that I got from the local craft store . . . I love that I actually got around to decorating for fall, that I got such a good deal, and that the light catches it just right in the afternoon to make them look real.

I like the clothing element.

Hmmm, my Sonicare toothbrush makes me smile.

I would never have seen the icky bathroom decor if you hadn't pointed it out. And I would never have judged, seeing as how we had a dead and rotting carpet in our living room.

Too cute!! I love the change in outfits! You are totally right that it is the little things that sometimes add up to a LOT in our day. One thing I love are my odd-size measuring spoons and measuring cups. It sounds silly, but you would not believe how much easier baking is with these tools. Like having a 1/2 Tbsp spoon, so now I can measure 1.5 tsp easily. Or having that 2 cup measure so I don't have to do endless spooning and filling of 1 cups of flour.

And your bathroom is fine. Ours needs a redo as well but it's currently last on my list. Much more fun to shop for kitchen stuff, LOL!

That is a way cool gadget! My hubby would really go for something like that. Can you give me the deets on where it came from?

My favorite thing is my iPod by far. It's the first thing I fire up in the mornings when I enter the kitchen. It's my coffee pot, since I don't drink coffee. LOL!

That is an awesome gadget!! Bravo to hubby!

Ok, first this was WAYYY more popular an item than I thought it would be. The one my husband bought me was made by La Crosse Technology. Email me if you want more details.

Melisa - We really should just save people time and write on one blog ;)

Laura - Ooo, a rooster crow. I like hearing them, too. Just not way early in the am. I'm focusing on that and not the ickyness.

Mrs4444 - Sorry I couldn't make it :( And yeah, you totally need this on your Christmas list!

Jennifer - The little man is really what makes it work. for me, at least.

Teacher Tom - That is awesome! I so need to track down that weather thing now.

Kelly - That's definitely a good reminder. Great thing to keep top of mind.

Tara - No? No discussion? How about some pictures then?

MaBunny - If it's in the 70s now, what did you need the heater on last night for? No way did your house get below 58 overnight, did it?

Carol Lynn - Glad I could make you smile -- but I hope you have more reasons now!

Stacey - Wellll that would involve going outside. I do love the idea of lighting candles to get his clothes to come off though ;)

Nichole - So our weatherman isn't the only one who gets it wrong regularly? I'm not sure if that's good or not ;)

Unknown Mami - Oooo so does mine. I love my Sonicare!

Karen - Apparently I should have kept that part to myself, huh.

Angela - Nope, doesn't sound weird at all. My half tablespoon measure is one of my favorites. Now I want to search out more!

Angie - Ummm, like I said La Crosse made it. I'm guessing probably Amazon?

Betty - Yep, he does good sometimes, doesn't he? ;)
