Dads Are From Mars...

Moms and dads always have different roles within the family. Our family is no different. Whenever there's a major issue, the wee ones call for Moooooooooooooom! And that's fine. I'm more comfortable taking care of those issues.

Once the bedroom door closes for naps or bedtime though, the story changes. If my husband is home, the wee ones both call for Daddy. They know that they have one shot with Mommy before I start taking away toys, so they store up that shot. My husband... they know he doesn't mean business the same way I do.

Daddy, I have to go potty.

Daddy, Snowy fell down. Can you pick him up?

Daddy, I'm thirsty!

And so it goes.

Last night:

Daddy!

Daddy! I need some help.

My husband heads upstairs to find Mister Man in the bathroom.

What do you need, Son?

Daddy, can you check to see if I'm clean? (Oh, I'm loving hearing this conversation from my spot from the couch.)

Mister Man, do you know who I ask to check my bottom to make sure that I'm clean?

No, Daddy. Who do you ask?

No one. I don't ask anyone. I wipe my bottom, and I can tell that it's clean. And if I have any doubts, I just look at the toilet paper and check.

Well, can you check me too then, Daddy?

Sarcasm is lost on the young. Fortunately, it isn't lost on the Moms who fully appreciate it!

LOL! How cute! Just wait though, in a few years the kids get it and then become equally as sarcastic - especially boys!

Hahahah!! Poor kiddo just didn't want any gross things on his rear. I love being a parent. And I love being the parent on the couch listening to those conversations.

ROFL!

As for teh obento box, I've had a hard time buying one in the US. I've been to a few different Japanese stores and ended up getting one in Japan. The most important thing about a kids lunch box (IMO) is that the kid likes it or they won't want to use it and you'll be stuck with something they'll refuse to bring back to school. Good Luck!

That's a great story!

WeaselMomma August 17, 2009 at 5:26 AM

That is excellent!

Melisa Wells August 17, 2009 at 6:20 AM

haha: I'd enjoy hearing that from the couch also. It's funnier from there! :)

HAHAHA! Many years ago, my baby cousin,( who graduates highschool this year) came up to my uncle and bent over and said "Am I Clean?"
All my uncle did was laugh hysterically, since he and my aunt never had kids and the girls were staying with them for a week.
He told her she was , but to call auntie next time and not wander out of the bathroom till she was sure, hehehe. She was about 4 or so at the time:))

Love those funny exchanges!

LOL! kids are so funny! I think you should bring this story up when he goes to pick up his senior prom date!

Pat August 17, 2009 at 9:54 PM

Hilarious!

When my kids were young, it was Mommy all the time, never Daddy unless I was gone.

Martha - Yeah...I'm not looking forward to those years. And I have to admit that I think at least some of that was pure frustration on my husband's part and not so much sarcasm.

Hyacynth - Being the parent on the couch in those situations is the best, isn't it?

Cookie - Thanks... and I think I'm stuck in the same boat. I'll have to wait until my friend goes to Taiwan and have her pick me up a good one from the midnight markets.

Laura - Mine will be 6 in about seven weeks, too! And yes, Honest and Truly Reviews -- I didn't want to do it on THIS site but too much fun and cool stuff out there.

Unknown Mami - And another one I can't wait to share as the wee ones get older!

WeaselMomma - What, you've never had one of yours do this?

Melisa - MUCH funnier. My husband was not a happy camper.

MaBunny - Yeah... the wee ones went through a stage where they wanted everyone in the house to admire their potty prowess and special guests were privileged to check for cleanliness. We nipped that one in the bud.

Kelly - I know. Although I feel like there's a lot of focus on the wee ones and potties right now. Time for a change of pace!

Roxane - Oh ABSOLUTELY. On his wedding day, too ;)

Pat - Awww, gott love how much thy love you, no?

TOO FUNNY! And I got an additional laugh because my kids do the exact same thing - they pull crap with Daddy that they wouldn't dream of pulling with me!

Tina August 18, 2009 at 7:21 AM

Haha this is too funny! I am still trying to get my daughter to "check" herself too. Someday it will happen... I hope.

Heather August 18, 2009 at 4:28 PM

So you're telling me this isn't a 3 year old phase? The constant bedtime stalls go on longer? *Sigh*

Steph at Problem Solvin' Mom August 18, 2009 at 6:30 PM

LOL - I was just telling my grandma yesterday how hubs is such a softy at nap/bedtime, though throughout the day he is much stricter than I am!

Michelle August 18, 2009 at 11:02 PM

Nichole - Kids are smart little suckers! They know exactly what they can get away with .. and with whom!

Tina - Oh it will. As my mom keeps reminding me, "No one ever went off to college (doing disgusting thing I hope the wee ones stop soon)"

Heather - Ummm, no. Or at least not with Mister Man. He will generally do it himself, but sometimes he wants confirmation. And ummmm he only does it to Daddy. He knows I will jjust tell him to figure it out.

Steph - It's amazing how the roughest men are such tenderhearts at bedtime so often. I think it's sorta sweet.

Mrs4444 August 19, 2009 at 10:33 PM

Oh, that is cute. I am very impressed that your husband gave him that answer (rather than just checking).

Anonymous August 23, 2009 at 11:04 AM

My girl and baby boy will walk past Dad and come into my bedroom (where I am alseep) to ask for a snack , a drink, help of some kind. I say out loud (and, this means nothing to a 4 year old and her 1 year old brother) "you do know you have TWO parents!"

Angie's Spot August 23, 2009 at 7:51 PM

Bless your hubby's heart for giving it a try. I find myself using sarcasm more and more with my girls and getting increased puzzling looks from them. LOL! I have to do something to keep my sanity around here. :-)

Michelle August 27, 2009 at 8:33 AM

Barb - That answer came from sheer frustration and a desire for him to be plopped down on the couch and not checking bottoms. :) Impressive? I dunno....

Elftea - Gotta love being so loved. Fortunately, the wee ones know what my limits are!

Angie - Uhhh yeah. Bless his heart for that. Sure. But sanity? Wayyy important. I'm with you on that one!
