2 + 2 = 5

It's amazing the things that children pick up on, even when they're things that aren't said. They have their own perceptions of what happens and why. And sometimes, it cracks me up.

Yesterday, we were playing outside in the afternoon because I was watching a friend's two boys and I couldn't stand to playing inside with them anymore. Those of you with three boys in your house, wow. I'm just glad no furniture was broken - and these are relatively well-behaved children, too. They're just so active all the time.

Anyway, point being that we were playing in the front yard when a car pulled into our driveway. I was mildly confused, as it wasn't their mom's car, and it was early for that anyway. Then a wave appeared from the car. It was Daddy. Not in his car.

So Mister Man asked the obvious question.

Daddy, what happened? How did you break your car this time?

I tried to stifle my laugh, I really did. The kid has a point though, as my husband does seem to be the king of his car breaking for silly reasons -- like basketball hoops falling on it -- necessitating loaner vehicles.

This time, it wasn't technically broken. But the power steering had a leak (and apparently my husband had known about this for months but just hadn't felt like having it taken care of - grrr), a ball bearing was going in one wheel, and three other not hugely major but definitely needing attention items.

Oddly, these kinds of things (knock on wood) only seem to happen to his car. Smart kid though.

At least my husband had the grace to blush before denying that he'd broken his car.

LOL - I'm sure that was oh so much more effective than if you'd said it! ;)

Mister Man cracks me up! When my husband teases me about the few dings in my minivan, the kids love to point out the huge dent that Daddy made in my minivan. Gratefully, he messed up bigger than me :)

Ha! I love that your husband is the one breaking cars because it's so stereotypical of women.

And welcome to my world of three boys. It's the real reason that my sanity is slipping.

Smart kid! Cooper is getting to the age where you can't slip things past him anymore - it is putting a serious crimp in my ability to lie.

LOL! How cute and so smart besides! Things like that always seem to happen to my hubby's car to, but not mine, makes you really wonder doesn't it?

Hehe.

Priceless. Much more effective then if you would have said anything.

Kids do, in all innocence, say the funniest things. My 3 sons are all grown up now, but I help in my friend's kindergarten class once a week and often they crack me up with what they say. But I only laugh inside my head and then tell my husband when I come home.

You can always count on kids to say the "right" thing at the "right" time...

Kids are so perceptive; that's funny.

Hi! Finally cracked open my reader for the first time in a long time....gonna try to catch up now :)

As long as his mojo doesn't touch your car and that is a smart kid.

Oh, a basketball hoop fell on your car too. Glad we didn't start that trend.

Steph - Absolutely. My husband was suspicious that I'd prompted him, but definitely OH so much better that it didn't come from me!

Kelly - I love it. It's great to have defenders -- with evidence, to boot.

Unknown Mami - I like to think so. In this respect, my husband disagrees, however.

Karen - Yeah, three boys is not my world. Or at least not my world to be thrown into abruptly like this!

Fishsticks and Fireflies - But hey, less lying is good for the soul, right? And ummm it improves your creativity.

Martha - Yep, although I don't wonder; I know. I drive with him, and he does NOT drive the way I do.

Jenn - Absolutely. This makes having kids all worthwhile, right?

Pat - Good point. If you laugh right in their presence, that's almost always a mistake, egging them on and all.

Melisa - Yep. It's one of my favorite parts about kids -- most of the time!

Barb - Join the club. I'm ummm a *tad* behind myself.

WeaselMomma - Oooo, good point. Then again, that's part of the reason he's currently not allowed to drive my car.

Adventures in Mother Venture - Ummm nope :) BUT I will say that it fell on my HUBAND'S car, not mine. And that I'd warned him for almost four years about the danger of the rust ring.
