It's Birthday-palooza!

I bake, as you ummm may have figured out from reading my posts. (Side note: up soon key lime parfaits! I saw my recipe for this recently and need to make them again.) I tend to not turn on the oven much in the summer because it's too hot. I always make an exception this weekend.

Today? My husband's birthday.
Tomorrow? Little Miss's birthday.
Monday? My dad's birthday.

No one will share a cake. And they each want their own kinds. And I can't take a half eaten cake to a birthday party for Little Miss. That adds up to four cakes in four days, just in case you're wondering.

This afternoon, I started my efforts. Because Little Miss is having her party at a beauty salon, they don't allow actual cake because of the mess it creates. However, they're (for whatever reason -- and I'm not questioning this!) totally cool with individual cupcakes. So I'm making ice cream cone cupcakes.

This is what I'm aiming for (pre-frosted):

But it's not all sunshine and lemonade when I'm baking, as much as I wish it were. There was a "minor" mishap as I was checking the cupcakes' doneness. They just about all tipped over. When they were mostly half done. This one happened to land on another one and didn't tip all the way over. I'm thinking frosting will save it.

This one landed face down across the door of the oven. And cupcake ended up falling to the floor and all along the hinge of the door. *sigh* There's no saving it. On the plus side, half-baked cupcakes taste pretty good. And I did forget to eat lunch today....

I also learned that trying to use a cracked cone is not a good idea. I figure it'll taste good once frosted, even though it's obviously not going to the party.

So what are your worst baking accidents (and no, this was by FAR not my worst)?

You get extra points for trying. But it does look kind of difficult and disastrous. Are you going to try again or give up and go with regular cupcakes?

You get an A+ for effort! I'm sure your little "bumps" in the kitchen are nothing compared to my catastrophes:) I want to hang out with your family for all that birthday cake!! Everyone is going to love whatever you bake, I'm sure!

My baking incidents are more than can be numbered. Or remembered. I do, however, think that a party at a beauty salon is the most genius idea that I've ever heard of.

Will you let me send you the silicone icecream cone baking thingamabob now?

I don't even want to talk about it - let's just say I do NOT bake! LOL! I do love the little accidents where you can eat up all the evidence ;-)

I want to come eat a piece of each of those cakes and some mishaps. Hmmm, worst mishap.......back in High School, making Chocolate chip cookies with friends we softened the butter in the microwave to pure liquid form. They tasted great but were the flattest, greasiest cookies we ever had.

I am a terrible baker, although I made a 9 layer cake this week and it turned out well. Amazed, all of us.

My friend makes her cone cupcakes by pouring the batter in and starting baking, then in a few minutes as they are starting to rise, puts the cones upside down on top. They end up big, like an ice cream cone with a big scoop.

I'll take care of those for you.
I just tried a new mozzarella stick recipe tonight. It turned out ok after a few tries. But not good enought that I would share pics!

Too many to count! But, the kids are used to the smoke alarm going off after I drop things in the bottom of the oven.

Carol Lynn - It's actually not at all difficult... I do it for every half birthday. For whatever reason, things were conspiring against me this time! Fortunately, I had enough cupcakes without having to remake any :)

Kelly - It was good, and it all worked out. But I'm caked out right now. There's some headed for the freezer tonight!

Karen - The party was SO fun. They did a little craft then had their hair and nails done with a tiny bit of makeup and then played dance games, etc. WAY fun!

Kori - Ummm, if you're really serious, I might let you. But only if I can send you something in return.

Elftea - Oh it totally works out. Just make sure the cone doesn't already have a crack in it!

Martha - It's possible I ate some of the accidents. The worst was my first time making flan though. Ohhhh, is that a disaster. Let's just say that it involves me picking glass out of my hair and finding shards of glass still when I moved a year plus later. And thanks!

Weaselmomma - Ohhhh yeah. Softened is good. Melted... only when it calls for it. But hey, that's not the worst it could be. I could beat you several times over, sadly :)

Gina - Wow, I'm impressed with nine layers. I've had failures with three layer cakes! Interesting concept with the cones, but do you end up with any cake in the cone or just on the top?

Cookie - You're so kind! And you realize that half the fun is in posting the pictures of the failures, right?

Debbie - Ohhh, I've done that. Woken up Little Miss from a nap by doing that. Learned not to clean my oven right before people come over before....
