Ahhh, The Good Life

We had dinner with my parents for Mother's Day, as I'm sure many others did as well. During dinner, the conversation somehow moved toward future careers. Little Miss declared that she was going to be an animal doctor, just like Auntie M.

Mister Man decided he had a different career path.

Mister Man: I think I want to be a teacher (just like Daddy - too bad the pension won't be there anymore!).
Me: Oh, that's a good job.
Grandpa: Don't you want my job?
Mister Man: No, I don't think I'd want my kids watching that.

The faces around the table were all puzzled except for mine. I was dying of laughter because I figured out where his little brain was going.

Me: You mean you don't want them watching as much television as Grandpa does?
Mister Man: No, it really isn't healthy to watch so much tv. And I want my kids to be healthy.
Grandpa: So you think my job is to watch tv?
Mister Man: Yeah. Well, that and to control the weather.
Grandpa: I control the weather?
Mister Man: Isn't that why you have the Weather Channel on all the time, too?

Touche, Mister Man. Touche. And no, Grandpa didn't really have a good answer for that.

LOL gotta love kids! I had to babysit yesterday and the 5 yr old boy shouted "Happy Mother's Day!" when he saw me...so I kindly told him that bc I am not a mother it's not my day to be celebrated and he looked at my perplexed and said "But what about your cat?! You're her mama right?"...

LMBO!! I love the things kids say! That was particularly good.

I think my Mom controlled the weather, too. TWC helped her keep on top of weather from Katmandu to Kalamazoo!

Really funny! My kids always seem to notice how much my hubby loves his TV. If I ask them on a Saturday about what Daddy is doing, good chance they will say "watching TV".

HAHAHAHA! Thanks for the great laugh this morning Michelle.
My dad had that job after retiring too;))

Roxane - Actually, I think the five year old had it right. Isn't your kitty your baby?

Hyacynth - Yep, they do, don't they?

Veggie Mom - Wouldn't that be a great super power? I'd almost take that one, but I think controling time is still the winner for me.

Laura - I know... scary that they listen, isn't it?

septembermom - Yep. Kinda like Little Miss drew a picture of a washing machine on her mother's day card for me? I'm still not sure how to take that one.

MaBunny - It seems to be a pretty common one. My in-laws have the same job, although they also have a side gig of playing bingo.

Ouch! It's amazing what kids pick up on!

That is awesome. I think my Dad might actually love that. He would definitely play up his role as controller of the weather.

Cookie - Yeah, no kidding. It really keeps me on my toes!

anymommy - I'm actually sort of surprised that my dad didn't play that up more, but ... he was just in shock, I think!

That's too funny about the weather!

Michelle May 16, 2009 at 9:59 PM

Heather - Yeah, although I think the massive downpour as we met Grandpa for some bike riding may have convinced him that Grandpa isn't in charge of the weather!
