It's Not Just Me

Yesterday, I was reading one of my favorite bloggers who was showing the destruction her children had made in her house while she was busy. I made a joking comment about not being the only house where socks are left in random places.

I was referring to the fact that the wee ones tend to take off their socks when playing in the basement and leaving them near the foot of the slide. And whenever they go to nap, they take off their socks and put them either somewhere to the side of their beds or under their beds.

Then I walked over to the kitchen this morning. And I saw something that made me realize I need to be very careful how I'm commenting, as karma seems out to get me lately.

This one? Totally my husband. Little Miss had taken off her socks and given them to my husband who apparently decided that the kitchen counter was an appropriate place for dirty socks.

I've since Clorox-wiped every eating surface in my house. I'm in real trouble, aren't I?

Oh no! I have the opposite problem. I loose socks. In the laundry, in my overnight bag, in my car...But I must say they very seldom turn up on the kitchen counter! lol

At least your socks are misplaced in pairs!

Sheryl March 30, 2009 at 4:17 PM

I guess it could be worse, it could have been a pair of underware. :-)

Watch out for that karma :) That sounds like something my husband would do too. Socks are always popping up all over the place. I even think I'll be finding little socks long after the kids are off to college.

LOL
Ditto Sheryl! Too funny!

I was thinking the same thing about the underwear. Next time you're driving home from STL ring my doorbell :)

Socks are the bane of my existence. We've had more on the counters than I care to admit.

I had a friend who--since she was a child--would go to bed wearing socks, and end up with one sock on and one sock..under her pillow! It continued on until college, when she, um, stopped sleeping alone! She had no recollection of ever removing her sock, much less putting it under her pillow!

Stopping by from SITS, thanks for the great story/picture :)

I got one better.
Last week Alexa took her dirty socks off after SCHOOL and put them on the snack table next to my LUNCH! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Funny!!! My boys, the little and the big one, do this kind of stuff, too. I'll never know what's going through their heads but I think it's something like this-- hey, leaving my dirty socks on top of dirty dishes in the kitchen is a great idea because everything is already dirty there anyway.

Also, we are more in the northern suburbs but far enough away from the lake that it doesn't dump snow on us at every chance it gets. :)

My son leaves his socks all over the floor in the living room, hallway and well, wherever.

Drives me nuts.

Katie Lane March 31, 2009 at 4:50 PM

My husband does that with his own socks :)

My kids stuff their dirty socks in the dollhouses, cabinets, in the trash cans, bathtub and anywhere else obscure they can possibly come up with. The kitchen counter is one place they haven't ended up...yet.

Roxane - I didn't say that we don't lose socks :) I have a healthy pile of loners that I keep hoping will eventually find mates!

Mary - THIS time they were. I'll have to show my collection of singletons someday.

Sheryl - Oooo, good point. I forgot to look for the silver lining, didn't I?

septembermom - Yeah, karma is defintiely out to get me whenever possible.

Aubrey - Yeah... it's a good point, isn't it?

Megryansmom - Yeah, I'll just stop at EVERY house there and ring ;) I'm sure that will go over well.

Bernadette - That's too funny. I know I used to turn around and sleep at the foot, but that doesn't come close to hiding a sock under the pillow each night!

Jill - Mmmm, yummy! Extra protein?

Hyacinth - That doesn't make me feel any better, especially because I can sort of understand some of the logic behind that!

Dana - Yeah, we have that, too. Floors I can sort of be ok with, but eating surfaces sort of wig me out.

Katie - Oh that's comforting! Adult socks are of course worse than kid socks, right?

Angie - Oh just be patient. They'll manage to find that hiding spot someday soon!

Ahaha. Socks are better than underwear... which I have found on my table. (inlaws, of course). :)

Michelle March 31, 2009 at 9:42 PM

Karen - With Micah's love of dressing, I'm surprised that's all you've got there!

RAS - You know, your in-laws just sound like so much fun. If my children EVER did that in someone else's house... yikes!

Vanessa Rogers April 1, 2009 at 8:24 AM

That is hilarious! That is something my husband would do!

Michelle April 1, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Vanessa - I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad one that my husband isn't alone in this!

I've always been of the mind that we need germs to build up our defense systems, so I wouldn't worry about the socks on the counter. Does that make you feel better?!?! ; )

Michelle April 10, 2010 at 11:03 PM

Betty - Obviously, I'm with you on the germs. But ummm the socks? That's a little much even for me :)
