You're Eating What?...

Children eat funny things. I remember a story from when I was in college and nannying about a family whose children ate sushi and edamame at the age of two. Personally, I'm all for eating sushi and edamame, but at two I don't think I would have gone for it. And I've tried to do sushi with my wee ones, and they aren't quite ready for it.

Sometimes you have kids that are super picky... they'll eat a certain brand of chicken nuggets and nothing else. They'll eat pasta with butter and strawberries, but no more. And there are times when I've wondered if my wee ones were heading down that path.

I shouldn't worry. They eat fine, although there are certainly things I wish they ate more or less of. Then again, I could apply that to what I eat, too!

Recently, we won a contest that Veggie Mom was having for Pop'rs. We got eight flavors to try out, and he's had a lot of fun with them. He really loves the color burst, cocoa and raspberry on yogurt or applesauce. In his milk is another favorite treat.

Tonight, we had popcorn chicken and corn for dinner.

I'm not sure where he got the idea, but he decided he wanted Pop'rs on his corn.

I'm not going to discourage him from trying new things, so I put a few pieces of corn on the side of his plate and let him put a couple Color Burst Pop'rs on it (yep, Color Burst -- kind of a fruity flavored one, not Butter that would make more sense).

And... he liked it. So I put Pop'rs on all of the corn, and he proceeded to have a grand old time eating them.

Personally, when I take a good look at it, I have no interest in trying this combination. The color burst starts out pink, turns blue and then green. Mixed with the yellow of the corn, well... ick!

So of course he decided that he wanted the Color Burst Pop'rs on his popcorn chicken. Who am I to refuse?

He loved it. He ate his dinner so quickly, that I hardly had time to get the camera to save this moment of ummm childhood for posterity. At least my husband was smarter and put the Bufalo flavor on his chicken. And now, I'm thinking I know where Mister Man gets it from!

So what weird things do your kids eat? Or you!

I say whatever gets them to eat is good. That being said, Micah sometimes eats cheese curls dipped in ketchup for breakfast. It makes me want to gag.

I've seen Nicole eat some strange stuff, but this early in the morning, I can't think of a one, lol.
I like to mix dinner together as long as there is something cheesy as a side dish. Say I make boneless skinless chicken breasts, with mac and cheese and mixed veggies? I'll cut the chicken up and mix it all together like a mini casserole. It drives my husband crazy. But I don't do this in restaurants, hehe.

Don't knock it till you try it, but we *love* Fritos (original) with cream cheese. Everyone I have ever told this too went "ewwww", but tried it and fell in love with this heart stopping snack!

Michelle: This is so awesome! Did Mr. Man happen to see the TV interview with Uncle Lynn that's posted at the top of my site? 'Cause the kids in the video are eating Pop'rs on corn. Thanks so much for this thought-provoking post. I'll pass it along to Uncle Lynn..you know he'll be thrilled!

Karen - Just eating cheese curls makes me want to gag. Adding ketchup to the mix isn't helping me any....

MaBunny - At least you have the restraint to not to it in restaurants... and really, isn't our public manners all that matters?

Weaselmomma - Fritos with cream cheese. I think I'll pass. I can't eat Fritos either.... I've got food issues.

Feener - Actually, I sorta do. The Pop'rs have good stuff in 'em and it gets kids to eat a lot of other stuff. Plus, they're fun (not that ahem I was eating the Color Burst out of my hand and turning my tongue blue last night or anything)! I'll have to go look at your Twit(ter?)!

Veggie Mom - NO! I actually haven't watched it myself. That's too funny. I bet they weren't eating Color Burst flavor though!

It kinda looks like salsa type corn!
My kids love sushi. But my husband says that edamame is a beer food, so I shouldn't encourage them to eat it... but it's healthy!
One thing that I can't stand that my kids love is furikake. It's a flaky powder kids in Japan sprinkle on white rice. It comes in different flavors, like seaweed, fish guts, and egg. Lemme just say the fish flavor looks and smells like fish food! BUt my kids LOVE it. In fact when my older son was 2, he used to sneak the jar out of the fridge and run behind the couch and pour it directly into his mouth before I could stop him. Gross!

Cookie - At least it's people food. When I was little, I used to steal dog bones and eat them. Sad, I know!

I won a contest from her also, but I only got 2 flavors. I got the Buffalo and the cinnamon.

My 4 yr old who eats nothing but cereal and Peanut butter LOVES that stuff! He ats it straight from the bottle. He will even eat meat (gasp) with poprs on it.

I will try the color blast next time I get a chance or win.

Glad your little man likes it as much as my little man does.
