How Little Minds Work

Little Miss came home with me today instead of riding the bus because it was PTO meeting day, and the PTO meeting ends at the same time as morning preschool. Of course, by the time I got out of the room and outside, she was already on the bus.

I decided to ask her if she wanted to ride the bus home or come with me, figuring I can easily beat the bus home since I'm making no stops. Nope, she wanted to come with me. No issues. We unbuckled her from her car seat, and all three of us (Mister Man attended the PTO meeting with me) trooped off to my car.

About halfway home, Little Miss tells me she has an announcement.

Little Miss: I'm tired of riding the bus.
Me: Oh? (thinking, this is the girl who for two years ran onto Mister Man's bus daily and was so upset that she didn't get to go and practically counted down the days until she got to ride the bus. Hmmm.)
Little Miss: Yes. I just don't like it anymore.
Me: Really? That's too bad. Why don't you like it anymore?
Little Miss: Well, I'm just really not a fan of the color yellow.
Me: I see. So what if the bus were painted purple instead?
Little Miss: Oh! Then I would love to ride the bus again.
Me: Yeah, there's no purple bus in your future, Peanut. You're just going to have to stick with riding the yellow one.
Little Miss: OK.

I'm not sure where she got that from. The whole idea cracks me up, especially since she sits inside the bus where it most definitely is not yellow. Ours are actually not a horrid shade of brick red-y maroon. Now I just have to hope that she's willing to hop on the bus tomorrow morning!

Bwahahaha!!! Kids come up with the darndest things, don't they?

LMAO, we will NEVER understand how little minds work. Glad everyone is feeling better and back to school. I like the color purple too, but I'd rather ride a BLUE bus:)

BAHAHAHAHAHA That is just great-- well, OF COURSE, we would all rather ride a purple bus! I like the way you handled it and how she just thought that was okay.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

LOL! Looks like she's going to be an interior designer when she grows up. She has a good color sense. ;)

LOL, gotta love her logic

Through the eyes of a child... ha! My 3 year old son desperately wants to ride the bus like his 5 year-old brother. When he sees any bus, he always asks, "Is that my 3 bus?" It's adorable.

Thanks for stopping by on your BATW layover!

P.S. I used to live in and around Chicago... miss it very much...

That's awesome... I had a similar discussion with my boys the other day, who also ride the bus, except it was more like ...

Me - "Wouldn't it be cool if your bus was purple instead of that freaking ugly yellow color?"

Them - "Yeah, can we stop riding it until they paint it purple?"

Me - "Nice try, punks..."

My story just isn't as sweet... I dunno why...

A purple bus would be too cool.

Irene October 8, 2008 at 9:19 PM

That is absolutely HILARIOUS. Aren't kids great?

Michelle October 8, 2008 at 10:09 PM

Karen - Oh, they do. They really do. I can't figure out where they get it from!

MaBunny - I don't know. I'm with Little Miss on wanting the purple bus. But I suppose blue would be ok, too.

Brenda Jean - Welcome! I think there are some Packer fans who maybe would prefer the yellow bus, but ... they're probably the only ones!

American in Norway - Welcome! They are cute, aren't they?

Melissa - Maybe. Actually, an interior designer wouldn't be a bad career. I may have to encourage that talent.

Megryansmom - Oh yeah. She's got some logic, alright.

Michelle - That's so sweet! Of course the kindergarten bus driver probably isn't as accomodating as our preschool bus drivers were... Soon enough for your little guy though!

GoteeMan - Welcome! I LOVE that conversation. Great comeback.

C - It would, wouldn't it? I suppose it wouldn't be as visible at night, but really... isn't that what reflective stickers are for?

Irene - Yep! Every day they do something that has me in stitches. I just wish I could remember more of them.

Even at a young age, she knows what colors she looks good in and which ones to stay away from ;)

Cookie October 8, 2008 at 11:49 PM

THat is hysterical! What a fashion critic!

Michelle October 9, 2008 at 8:22 PM

Shannon - Welcome! I love the thinking photo. And yes, I'm impressed that at her age she's so ummm opinionated. I think I'm going with the interior design since that would be a job where the whole point is in expressing an opinion!

Cookie - Oh yeah. She's a fashion critic alright. Although I will say that it's awfully cute when the wee ones want to wear something that matches Mommy!

Susie October 11, 2008 at 8:23 PM

That is so funny!! Where do they come up with that stuff?

Michelle October 11, 2008 at 10:35 PM

Susie - Welcome! If I knew where they came up with these things, I'd definitely bottle it. I'd make a mint, I think.

Kate Coveny Hood October 12, 2008 at 10:32 AM

She's just "not a fan" - I love it! I say that all the time (the "not a fan" part - I actually DO like the color yellow).

My kids are still to little to come up with this kind of thing...but I can't wait!

Funny girl-- it always cracks me up when my kids say stuff like this. You just have to wonder, is this stuff running through their brains all the time? :)

Vicki October 15, 2008 at 3:53 PM

How cute! Kids are always so literal and honest about those things. Hopefully she was ready and willing to get on the bus.

Thanks for submitting your post to BPOTW!
