Happy Birthday #3

Today was the last of the birthdays -- at least until October when we celebrate Mister Man turning five. And I'm all caked and baked out right now!

Yellow cake with chocolate frosting? Check (and a change from the usual order of cherry chocolate chip, I might add). Chocolate cake with vanilla frosting? Check. Chocolate cake with caramel filling and fudge icing? (My dad's version of a turtle) Check. And I'm not counting the cake I saw at two kid birthday parties and a going away party yesterday. I'm somewhat hungry right now, but everything sounds too sweet to me at the moment!

Plus, my mom made blueberry coffeecake this morning for brunch, although I'll admit that I really ate mostly fruit. After brunch was time for presents, and I forgot to mention that Mister Man had bought presents for everyone's birthdays. For Daddy, he bought a spinasaurus. For Little Miss, he found cute little figurines of Dora and Swiper (thankfully, they had their names on the bottom or I'd be clueless), as well as a cute Webkinz figurine of a dog licking an ice cream cone. For my dad, he got a brontasaurus.

Fortunately, everyone liked their presents, but Mister Man was most excited of all. All he did was jump up and down as they were being opened. And please, ignore the scraggly hair on Little Miss. I swear we brushed it this morning, but she just has so little hair and it's still so thin....

We all had fun swimming at the club today. It was really cool watching Mister Man actually swimming with his face down in the water across the pool to my dad and husband. And Little Miss just kept jumping everywhere and going under the water and having a blast. I'll be interested to see how she does in swimming lessons on Tuesday (her first ever).

Had Mister Man taken a nice nap, he was going to get to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's. He's been up late and little nap with all the celebrating the last several days (the last birthday party yesterday was about 45 minutes away and was from 5:30-8:30 -- for a five year old!). Without sleep, both the wee ones tend to not function as well, and they don't sleep as well at my parents' house as they do at home.

Unfortunately, the nap didn't happen. And he kept popping in and out of his room. And when I let him stay up, everything kept falling apart for him. When he was informed that he didn't get to spend the night but that Little Miss did, he wasn't exactly happy. Remember that whole not functioning well thing when overtired? Try multiplying that by bad news.

We did still go to my parents for dinner and cake though. While they may taste good, no one will ever hire me to decorate them! Granted, I did the decorating and frosting at my parents' house because I didn't realize remember that I was out of powdered sugar from making the two previous cakes until the wee ones were down for their naps.

I remembered to bring everything else I needed to my parents, but I had to use my mom's icing writing tubes. My guess is that she hasn't used them for awhile, as they either were liquid and bled everywhere -- thus the trail of blue down the cake that you see in the pictures -- or were so hard that my hand literally hurt trying to get any of the icing out. I ended up using multiple colors, but that's why I only do these for family!

When we sang, my dad hammed it up. He's really the instigator in all the birthday people having their own birthday celebration on their own days. And their own cakes. He enjoyed directing everyone in singing VERY loudly to him.

Both Little Miss and Mister Man helped him blow out his ... seven candles. We figured that sixty-four would be a fire hazard!

Happy birthday, Dad! Thank you for all you do and all you've done for me over the years. I wouldn't be where or who I am today without you.

Aww...... and happy birthday to your dad. I see that he is 7 years old.... or is that young?

Kellan - I have to admit that I've never thought of my dad as handsome, so thank you! I'll have to tell him, and he'll be thrilled.

Broken Man - Welcome! We're always busy... this month much more so than normal actually. Glad you think the cake looks good even with the icing bleeding down the side!

Mabunny - Sadly, I don't like chocolate cake, so I only had a piece of my husband's on Thursday, but that may be a good thing! I love baking... just not the eating.

Jules - Ummmm yeah. Sixty-four candles would have been a bit dangerous. And I don't think my parents had that many matches in the house (to light them all)!

Aw, Happy Bday to your dad! I hope he enjoys that brontosaurus to its full potential. What a sweetie that Mister Man is!
