My Big Little Girl!

With Little Miss officially potty trained (knock on wood, cross my fingers, spin in a circle), it's time to finally rearrange her furniture and decorate her room like a big girl.

The first thing my mom and I did was hang up the cute little hooks that I got at Target ohhh about three years ago now. Little Miss immediately decided to hang her pjs on the hooks. As long as she hangs them up again in the morning, I'm all good with that theory.

You'll also see a shelf above the tall dresser. At about 19 months, she suddenly decided she was done with her crib and wanted a big girl bed. She didn't try to climb out or any of the usual suspects, but she refused to get in that crib. My husband and my dad put up this shelf last year when we put Little Miss's big girl furniture in her room. If you look carefully, you can see that there's a large screw hole in the wall to the right of the shelf support from where they realized they needed to hang it on a stud. And if you look really carefully, you can also see that the shelf itself is not level on the supports. Not that this drives me nuts whenever I look at it or anything.

The next step was to change Little Miss's dresser from a changing table into a big girl dresser. We attached the mirror -- after explaining to Little Miss that a hammer is not a toy and ensuring she moved away from the mirror leaning on the side of the bed. It's so grown up now!

We also attached the other set of hooks next to her vanity table. (Costco, summer 2007 -- her birthday present from me last year. Note that the ladybugs and flowers on the vanity sort of match her comforter.) These hooks were intended to hang some of her play necklaces like her flower. Nope, she was having none of it. You'll note that there are more pjs hung on these hooks. And no, those aren't her only pjs. I'm not sure how, but I swear she has almost 15 pairs of pjs between summer and winter styles.

Now that I sort of know how the rest of her room is going to be arranged, I can finally hang up her baby pictures. This was a present from my MOH when Little Miss was born.
Actually, it's so cute that I need a close up, too. She was so tiny! It's funny, but she looks nothing like these pictures now, does she? This was taken when she was about 6 weeks old by a great photographer (this image is Little Miss at about 10 months -- still doesn't look like her; the next photo is also her at 6 weeks). In the bottom middle picture, that's my arm btw, for any of you sick-minded people.

Then we put up the rest of her shelves that belong over her bed. If I may, I'd like to point out that they are totally level. They are mounted into studs. They are evenly spaced (from this angle, they look more to the right than they are). And they sort of break up the room, in a good way.

My challenge now is ... how else do I decorate her room? Her shelves don't really have anything "good" on them, except for the three piggies piggy bank and picture of her and Mister Man. I'm so not into the little girl things, so any ideas are appreciated!

Awwwww, her room looks so cute! I absolutely LOVE that photo collage! Adorable!

As far as ideas for decor, I saw the prettiest butterflies from The Land of Nod catalog today. There are 3 of them and you purchase them individually. They're pretty good size. Other than that, I just have tons of pics and books all around the room. Good luck and have fun!

Congrats on being potty trained. Crossing my fingers for you. 19m out of the crib? Oh,my! I'm all about the crib until they climb out. Good for you. Cute bedroom!

What a darling room!!!! And that picture is precious!

Dolls, stuffed animals, maybe books or photo albums - framed pictures of her - on the shelf. Have fun - I'm sure it will look fabulous whatever you come up with!

Take care - Kellan

Sorry, i'm so behind on my blog reading!
I have no suggestions for her room, but I do love the baby pictures like that. Great idea!

It's a really sweet room. I let my little ones finger paint on a couple of those stretched canvasses from JoAnn's. It turned out really cute! (And, I am usually the anti-crafty.)

Karen - Thanks! I'm not girly at all, and I'm totally fine if she just wants to do the train thing and play sports. But so far, she's looking like she'll be at least part girly girl, so I'm trying to support that.

Angie - Ooo, Land of Nod. I like them. I'm definitely going to go scope out the butterflies you're talking about. Those might work!

Steph - Thanks! The photo collage is one of my favorites, too (even though she looks NOTHING like what she did when she was an infant). I really regret not knowing about that and having one done for Mister Man when he was a baby.

G&CM - Yep, at 19 months, I made the mistake of letting her nap in Mister Man's big boy bed when he was playing at my parents' house and she refused to get back into her crib from that point on. We had to take the crib mattress and put it on the floor for a few days until we got her big girl furniture situated. She's a little ... opinionated.

Kellan - I like the idea of photo frames on the shelves. I have a ton of photos of her and of Mister Man that I haven't framed yet because I don't have frames for them (seriously, $10+ per frame? egads!) and don't know where to put them. Good idea (hello, Annie's Attic!).

Cookie - Trust me, I get the being behind thing! And thanks on the photos. I'm definitely doing another set of them, but I can't decide whether to do them alone or together.

Rhea - Welcome! Thanks, I'm trying to figure out how to appropriately fill the walls, as some of the space looks so bare. But I'm glad the rest is working out so far!

Anymommy - I'm usually not anti-craft, but I do tend to be anti-paint! That could be a cool idea though -- especially if I could tie the paint colors into the colors of her room.
